This Competition Cams 31-234-3 and Enginetech lifter package is a street-performance upgrade designed for Ford 221, 260, 289 and 302 hydraulic flat tappet engines. With .477″/.484″ lift, 256°/268° advertised duration, 212°/218° duration at .050 and a 110-degree lobe separation angle, this Xtreme Energy profile delivers a noticeable improvement in torque, throttle response and mid-range acceleration while maintaining smooth street drivability.
The .477/.484 lift opens the valves significantly deeper into the cylinder head’s airflow path, increasing the amount of air/fuel mixture entering the cylinders. The 212°/218° duration at .050 keeps the valves open long enough to improve cylinder filling and enhance combustion efficiency. This results in stronger mid-range pull, faster throttle response and a more energetic feel throughout the entire 1,000–5,200 RPM operating band. The 110° LSA introduces controlled overlap, assisting exhaust scavenging while maintaining enough vacuum for power brakes and stable idle quality. The idle has a crisp performance tone, giving the engine more character without crossing into “race-only” territory.
