This Competition Cams 31-250-4 performance upgrade kit is engineered for Ford 221–302 hydraulic flat tappet engines needing major gains in acceleration, airflow and top-end horsepower. The kit includes the Competition Cams 31-250-4 Xtreme Energy camshaft, Enginetech high-performance hydraulic lifters, a true double roller timing set and a matched Stage 2 spring/retainer system built to control this cam’s aggressive lift and duration.
The camshaft delivers .541″/.544″ lift, 284°/296° advertised duration, 240°/246° duration @ .050 and a 110° lobe separation angle. With over .540″ lift, the valves open deep into the heads’ most efficient airflow zone, dramatically improving intake charge, scavenging and overall engine breathing. The extended duration profile keeps the valves open long enough to maximize cylinder filling at higher RPM, producing a harder-pulling mid-range and a powerful top-end charge up to the 6,500 RPM range.
The 110° LSA creates controlled valve overlap, improving exhaust evacuation and intake velocity. This results in a sharper throttle response, stronger acceleration and a deep, aggressive performance idle that instantly transforms the engine’s personality.
The included Stage 2 dual springs and hardened retainers deliver the valvetrain control needed for .541″/.544″ lift, preventing valve float and maintaining stability across the RPM range.
