Description

This complete performance kit includes the Competition Cams 31-601-5 Thumpr hydraulic flat tappet camshaft, Enginetech performance hydraulic lifters, a true double roller timing set, Stage 2 performance valve springs with matching retainers, and a set of 6.876-inch performance push rods. It is designed for Ford small block 302 engines that need a major improvement in sound, torque, throttle response, and overall performance. The camshaft features 279 and 296 degrees advertised duration, 227 and 241 degrees duration at .050, .491 and .476 lift, and a 107-degree lobe separation angle. These specifications create the high overlap needed for the classic Thumpr lopey idle while improving cylinder scavenging and delivering stronger mid-range torque.

Operating in the 2,000 to 5,800 RPM range, this camshaft provides quicker throttle response, stronger acceleration, and a dramatic improvement in engine sound and personality. The cam uses the early Ford firing order of 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 for proper ignition timing and correct engine operation. The included true double roller timing set provides improved timing accuracy and durability compared to stock chains. The Stage 2 valve springs and retainers help prevent valve float and ensure stable valvetrain operation at higher RPM levels.

The 6.876-inch performance push rods complete the kit by maintaining proper valvetrain geometry and adding strength for engines operating with higher lift and more aggressive ramp rates.
